Telephone billing

The Federal Communications Commission identifies telephone billing as its top consumer problem. In the last quarter of 2001, the agency fielded more than 38,000 calls about hardline phone problems and more than 3,800 about wireless phones -- in both cases, most of the calls dealt with billing issues. Anne Thompson will focus on one specific aspect of these billing problems: the leasing of telephones. She'll talk to a woman who unknowingly leased a $13 residential phone for 33 years and paid approximately $6000 on the lease.
