Vols Pearl Gets Contract Extension and Raise

He's known as much for his bright orange blazers and painted chest, but it's Bruce Pearl's success as Tennessee's head basketball coach that has Vols Brass wanting him to stick around.

Pearl has agreed in principle to a one-year contract extension that'll keep him in Knoxville through 2013, and increase his pay package to $1.3 million this year.

The Vols have reached the NCAA tournament in both of Pearls two years at the helm, appearing in the Sweet 16 last season with a 24-11 record and second-place finish in the SEC regular season.

Pearl's new contract contains a "loyalty bonus" of $500,000 if he stays through the 2009-2010, and another $500-K due after the 2012-2013 season.
