TN makes changes to sex offender law

Soon you'll have the ability to know more about your neighbors. On August 1st, convicted sex offenders must register with the state of Tennessee no matter when the crime occurred.

The law is kind of tricky. It states that a sex offender or a violent sex offender whose victim is a minor cannot live near a park, school or day care. In other words, if the victim was an adult, that offender could live near parks and schools.

Also if a sex offender is in a neighborhood and a day care or school goes up within 1000 feet -- that sex offender can remain there because the offender was there first.

It's a confusing law for people, neighbors and even police. Tennessee law is specific and detailed.
