2 in Memphis charged with FEMA fraud for Hurricane Katrina

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Two Memphis residents are charged with filing bogus claims for Hurricane Katrina relief.

Cynthia Yvonne Grice and Jonnie McGowan Junior are charged with lying about living in Mississippi or Louisiana while seeking financial assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Grice is charged with one count of trying to defraud a federal agency while McGowan is charged with five counts in indictments returned this week.

Each charge carries a maximum punishment upon conviction of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
