Man wanted in N.Y. bank robbery turns self in to Nashville police

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Police say a man wanted in the robbery of a bank in upstate New York has surrendered to an off-duty police officer in Nashville.

Ricky Massey approached Officer Ada Thaxter while she was working an off-duty job in north Nashville.

He told her he was wanted in connection with last week's robbery of a bank in his hometown of Saratoga Springs, New York, and came to Nashville by Greyhound bus.

Massey was detained yesterday and a search turned up more than four thousand dollars in cash. He was later taken to a hospital after he told officers he felt ill.

Police planned to book Massey on a pending federal fugitive warrant after his discharge from the hospital.
