LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A Greyhound bus bound for Tennessee caught fire early Friday as it traveled south on Interstate 75 in central Kentucky.
The driver of the bus pulled over to the side of the road after some passengers reported smelling smoke, WKYT-TV reported. The 47 passengers were evacuated from the bus and the Lexington Fire Department was called around 3 a.m. EDT.
Flames were visible from the bus by the time firefighters arrived, WKYT reported. Video showed flames and hazy smoke coming from the bus before sunrise. The fire was short-lived, the station reported.
The bus left Cincinnati at 5:15 a.m. and was scheduled to make a stop in London, Ky., before reaching Knoxville, Tenn., at 7 a.m., Greyhound spokeswoman Anna Folmnsbee said. She declined to release the driver's name.
"We are very proud of our driver," Folmnsbee said. "We think she did a fantastic job."
