Robber convicted of attacking Hispanics draw 38-year sentence

MEMPHIS , Tenn. (AP) - A convicted robber accused of focusing on Hispanic victims was sentenced Friday to 38 years in prison with no chance of parole.

Andre Henderson, 23, was sentenced for armed robbery and is still awaiting trial on a murder charge.

He was convicted of robbing Gildardo Diaz and then shooting him in the back with a handgun. Diaz was attacked while leaving his apartment to go to work.

Henderson, a suspect in a string of robberies of Hispanic victims over several weeks, is awaiting trial on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Santiago Gomez, who was shot to death during a robbery in 2005.
