Cheney leaves the hospital after minor surgery

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Cheney has left a Washington hospital after a minor surgical procedure. Doctors at George Washington University Hospital replaced the generator and battery in a device that monitors Cheney's heart rhythms.

His spokeswoman says "the device was successfully replaced without complication."

She says Cheney was at the hospital for about four hours, then returned to his home at the Naval Observatory and resumed his normal schedule.

The heart defibrillator was implanted in June of 2001. It's designed to deliver an electric shock to reset the heart if it ever goes out of rhythm.

Cheney has had four heart attacks and underwent quadruple bypass surgery.
