Seniors beat the heat with singing and ceramics

There are six Memphis community and senior centers serving as cooling stations for those seeking salvation from the sun.

Sarah Samuels goes to the Orange Mound Community Center on Park. She says she has a skin condition and health problems, so she spends the day inside doing arts and crafts with other senior citizens.

"I take my bus or where ever I'm going to come back to Orange Mound here where I am now. That's where I stay cool," said Samuels.

Seniors at the Orange Mound location are trading sweat and sun for ceramics, singing and a host of other indoor activities.
