Ankiel Homers in Comeback to Cardinals

Rick Ankiel hasn't been in the Big Leagues since 2005.

That was as a Pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Control trouble forced him to remake himself into a slugging outfielder, which he did successfully with the Memphis Redbirds.

Now, the Pacific Coast Leagues' leading Home Run Hitter is Back on the Big Stage with his old Major League Club.

Ankiel makes his Re-Debut in St. Louis Thursday night to a standing ovation of more the 40-thousand Cardinals fans at Busch Stadium.

The Cards called him up from Memphis after the 'birds long road trip...and put him in the starting lineup against the Padres..hoping his 32 Redbirds home runs will carry over..

But, on the mound for the Pahds.. Chris Young, a Cardinal Killer with a 1.85 ERA..

Ankiel Pops out in his first at bat..

Is called out on strikes in the third inning..

And just plain strikes out in the 5th.

The night not a total loss for Cardinals fans...or Ankiel

Looks what happens in the 7th...

Ankiel unleashes a 3-run Home Run to Right Field!

The Kind of Shot that makes it all worthwhile in the long comeback.

The Love Affair with the fans continues long after the Home Run Trot.

Now the Folks in St. Louis get to enjoy what started here in Memphis.

Cardinals go on to win it..
