Police investigate infant death

While a Mid-South mother grieves, investigators want to know more about the death of her 7-month-old baby girl.

Kenya Fitzgerald said her daughter Keyana suffocated between a bed and a wall. "I just want to be able to hold my baby again and I can't hold her no more," said Fitzgerald.

Officials with the Department of Children's services said they are also conducting an investigation into the 7-month old girls tragic death.

However, DCS spokesman Rob Johnson said that he can't say much about the investigation into 7-month old Kenya Fitzgerald's death because of the confidential nature of DCS investigations.

Johnson did admit that his agency is aware of the case and is working closely with police.

Memphis police also said that the 7-year-old's mother has been questioned but no charges have been filed.

Officers say their investigation is in somewhat of a holding pattern as they wait on an official cause of death from the medical examiners office.

The medical examiners report is expected back in several days.
