Memphis area man pleads guilty to child pornography charges

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Federal officials say a Memphis area man has pleaded guilty to charges of producing child pornography involving an 8-year-old girl.

Scott Farthing, 35, of Huntingdon, entered his plea in federal court in Memphis on Wednesday. He's charged with producing child pornography, engaging in sexually explicit conduct and possession of child pornography, said David Kustoff, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 16 before U.S. District Court Judge Bernice B. Donald. Farthing remains in custody pending his sentencing.

Farthing, who was charged in May 2006 in a multi-count indictment, could face up to 40 years in prison.

The indictment resulted from an investigation by Huntingdon police and member agencies of the Memphis Crimes Against Children Task Force - the FBI, Shelby County sheriff's office, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Memphis police.
