13 year veteran of MPD has died

A 13-year veteran of the Memphis Police department died this week. Lucky the Horse meant a lot to many in this community.

He started his career as a racehorse, and then spent several years as a show horse in Germantown.

But his real work started when he partnered with Officer Jim Pickens of the Memphis Police Department. "He made a real good police horse. He was very solid, very dependable. He was the best partner I ever had," says Pickens.

Lucky spent the last six years of his life as a lesson horse at Shady Side Farm in Eads. Lucky's picture hangs in the Police Museum on Beale street.
