Just 13 days until the Memphis Tigers kick off the 2007 season in the Liberty Bowl. With 5 upper classmen on the offensive line, a senior quarterback, and an explosive receiver in Duke Calhoun, the Tigers should be able to put up some serious points. BUT WAIT it gets better! Tommy West has added another big-play receiver in ju-co transfer Steven Black.
Black caught a long ball in the first scrimmage and came up with 3 more catches yesterday. Whether it's throwing a block or getting extra yards, Black has really impressed his coach and teammates. Quarterback Martin Hankins is excited to have another option.
'He's gonna be big for us. I mean with Duke Calhoun, Carlos Singleton and Maurice Jones backing him up, we have a lot of talent.'
West was really excited after Saturday's scrimmage.
'He's always making a play out there. Steven Black is playing extremely well.
As for Duke Calhoun, a sophmore from Memphis, he led Saturdays scrimmage with 5 receptions for 58 yards and three touchdowns. One more inter squad battle planned for later this week.
