Travel Channel's "Made in America" tapes in Arlington, Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Actor John Ratzenberger is recording a series of shows on manufacturing for the Travel Channel.

He also hosts the series called "Made in America."

Ratzenberger's crew filmed yesterday at the Maytag plant in Jackson. Other segments on the scheduled include filming at Wright Medical in Arlington and at two Nashville spots -- United Record Pressing and the General Jackson Showboat.

Ratzenberger portrayed letter carrier Cliff Clavin on the long-running T-V sitcom "Cheers!" He has more recently been featured on "Dancing with the Stars" and has voiced animated characters in every Pixar film.

Ratzenberger contends the U.S. would be a Third World country without manufacturing.

He says his blue collar upbringing in a Connecticut factory town gave him a deep appreciation for manufacturing and the people who work in it.
