Huckabee criticizes Warner's Iraq withdrawal comments

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says Senator John Warner's call to begin troop withdrawals in Iraq before the end of the year is premature.

Huckabee told reporters at the Midwest Republican Leadership Conference in Indianapolis today that the troop surge in Iraq might be showing signs of progress. He says the public should allow time to complete the plan.

Warner is a Republican from Virginia. He is former chairman of the Armed Services Committee and was Navy secretary during the Vietnam War. Warner said yesterday that President Bush would be sending a powerful message to Iraq's government that the U.S. commitment there is not open-ended.
