What kind of Stadium will fans buy tickets to in the Future in Memphis?
Studies are underway to either upgrade the Liberty Bowl, or replace it.
Now, momentum is building for an On Campus facility.
University of Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson had been silent on the Campus stadium issue until this past weekend, when the school released a statement saying it will entertain the idea, along with the study the city of Memphis is currently doing on the present stadium.
Johnson says a funding a campus facility would take huge Private support.
"The obvious ones are the FedEx folks..and we've talked to them and our Ambassadores about committing to a stadium and they said that's not what they want to do right now.. That's down the road..but, again if someone comes up with an idea we'd take a look at it."
The whole stadium issue started because the Current Liberty Bowl must be renovated to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, which could cost Millions of Dollars on a 43 year old stadium.
Johnson says University President Shirley Raines is adamant about securing funding for several projects involving academic facilities on campus, before focusing on a stadium on school grounds.
