Shelby County HEAT Hotline to shut down Thursday

Mayor Wharton announced this morning that the Shelby County HEAT Hotline would temporarily shut down at the end of the day Thursday.

Wharton said the shut down was in response to the recent break from record temperatures that blanketed the area for nearly three weeks.

The hotline took nearly 1,500 requests for fans and air conditioners, and conducted initial interviews to determine eligibility of applicants.

Wharton said after the HEAT Hotline closes, the Mayor's Assistance Center will remain available to assist citizens in need of county services.  The number is 901-545-4311.
