BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - An autopsy has shown that a 17-year-old Biloxi High School football player died of respiratory depression.
Chris Pratt was found dead in his bed Monday. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said respiratory depression occurs when there's too much carbon dioxide in the blood, also known as hypoventilation. "He quit breathing," Hargrove said. "There's no trauma or signs of injury from playing football."
Pratt's grandfather, Sammy Handler, said Biloxi police are investigating the death because of Pratt's age. "No foul play was involved," Handler said, "but the death of someone that young should be investigated.
It was an unfortunate death." Pratt, a senior, was the starting left tackle for Biloxi, and had also played for D'Iberville. Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Pentecostal Church in Biloxi.
