Olive Branch court clerk, police aide arrested in separate embezzlement cases

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (AP) - A municipal court clerk and an aide to Olive Branch Police Chief Art Heun are facing embezzlement charges.

The two were arrested Tuesday. Heun identified them as 51-year-old Jennifer Carson, who was court clerk and 41-year-old Melanie Dawn Comans, who resigned in June while under suspicion.

Heun says there was no indication of conspiracy or collusion.

Carson and Comans were released after posting $1,000 bonds each set by DeSoto County Justice Court Billy Lantrip. They are to appear in municipal court on September 18th.

Mayor Sam Rikard said the investigation into the court clerk's office was related to missing money from cash bonds.

Rikard said the thefts spanned "several years" and "several thousands of dollars."
