6 of 7 escaped county jail inmates back behind bars

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - Six of the seven men who escaped from the Hamblen County Jail this week are back behind bars tonight.

Nicholas Kyle Short was the latest inmate to be captured and the only one believed to have left the state. Authorities say Short was apprehended around 9 p.m. by U.S. Marshals in Lubbock, Texas.

Nathan Wayne Carroll was the only one still at large. Other than Short, the others who were captured did not make it far.

All of them were tracked down in the surrounding area. Michael Jesse Banner was recaptured about 1 p.m. today when he was spotted in a vehicle.

He ran from officers but was caught. Some two hours earlier, Scott Collins was located at his girlfriend's house and surrendered without incident.

Michael Curtis Long, Paul Long and Joshua Adkins were caught yesterday. The seven overpowered a guard to escape Tuesday night. Sixty-two other inmates decided not to take flight.
