All seven escaped inmates captured

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - All seven inmates who escaped from the Hamblen County Jail this week, including a federal prisoner, are back behind bars Saturday morning.

The final inmate, Nathan W. Carroll, 20, was captured without incident in a trailer in the county late Friday night, said Chief Deputy Wayne Mize.

There were 69 inmates in the 32-bed dormitory-style annex where the inmates overpowered a guard to escape Tuesday night.

But 62 inmates decided not to take flight. It was the biggest local jailbreak in 30 years. All but one of the escaped inmates were tracked and found in the surrounding area, he said.

Nicholas Kyle Short was the only one who left the state.

Short was apprehended Thursday night by U.S. Marshals in Lubbock, Texas, according to Mize. Michael Curtis Long, who was serving a 12-year sentence on a federal firearms conviction, was captured Wednesday night about eight blocks away from the jail when police spotted him with a group of people at a backyard barbecue.
