UM official says student died after falling from tree at frat house

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - University of Mississippi officials say a student from Texas died today (Saturday) after falling from a tree outside a campus fraternity house.

Jeff Alford, associate vice chancellor of university relations, says Bradley Jameson, an 18-year-old freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, was taken off life support about noon.

Lafayette County Coroner Lonnie Weaver says Jameson had suffered "massive head trauma" early this morning when he fell about 12 feet from the tree and struck his head on a concrete patio.

Aflord says Jameson had been throwing a football with other students at the Beta Pheta Pi fraternity house when the ball got lodged in a tree about 3:45 a.m.

Jameson apparently fell when he climbed the tree to retrieve the ball. Weaver says Jameson was taken by helicopter to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis where he later died.

Fraternity president Scott Stewart says Jameson was not a member of the fraternity but was a friend of several members. Alford says police have no reason to believe alcohol was a factor.

The corner says he wants to review toxicology reports before commenting on that.
