Hundreds of female voters stand behind Herenton

You have until September 29th to vote early in the Memphis elections. One group candidates are working hard to win over: Women.

Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton got a lot of love from the ladies at a luncheon in his honor.

"It is indeed gratifying," said Herenton.

The $50 a plate fundraiser was held by the group Women With Herenton. Hundreds of female voters who stand behind their incumbent mayor.

"And I'm supporting him because I think he's done a wonderful job," said one supporter.

Another supporter adds, "I feel that he's a mayor for everyone."

"There have been some things of course I didn't agree with but basically I think he's the best person for the job," said Carole Higgs.

Candidates in Decision 2007 would do well to rally the female vote.

In the 2003, Memphis Municipal Election report more than 61 percent of the voters were women, compared to 38.2 percent of males who voted.

"The female vote is very important in any election," said Herenton.

This kind of voter support is crucial for any candidate in any race. Women who are historically more likely to make it to the polls than men.
