Woman pleads guilty to killing guard to help husband escape

KINGSTON, Tenn. (AP) - A former prison nurse has pleaded guilty to killing a corrections officer while helping her inmate husband escape, and received a life sentence without possibility of parole.

Jennifer Hyatte appeared at the same Roane County courthouse where she was accused of killing Correction Officer Wayne "Cotton" Morgan and wounding his partner on Aug. 9, 2005.

She pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and facilitating an escape. Hyatte and her husband George fled the state, but were captured 36 hours later at a motel in Columbus, Ohio.
