Death row inmate files for stay on lethal injection protocol

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A death row inmate is asking for a stay of execution two days after a federal judge found Tennessee's method for lethal injection is unconstitutional.

Edward Jerome Harbison was scheduled for execution next week before the decision by U.S. District Judge Aleta Trauger (TRAW-ger) cast doubt on whether Tennessee could give any more lethal injections.

But she didn't grant Harbison a stay. Now Harbison is seeking to make sure that his scheduled execution is called off while the merits of the lethal injection three-drug cocktail work through the courts.

Harbison was sentenced to death for the beating death of an elderly woman during a burglary in 1983.
