Police solve 30-year-old murder

DNA evidence helped solve a decades old Alabama murder case. In 1977, authorities found the body of a man dumped in a Marshall County cemetery.

His throat had been slashed and his face was covered in yellow paint. Bobby Kellum disappeared around the same time.

His family came forward just a few months ago to say they believed the body found 30 years ago was that of their missing relative. And DNA confirmed it was Kellum.

"This is the ghost story that are children whispered at night and have told for years and years," says Marshall County Sheriff Scott Walls.

Investigators say in 1977 Kellum met a girl at the Fair. Two weeks later, that girl's father, and two of his friends killed Bobby Joe Kellum.

Only one of the suspects is still alive and he won't be prosecuted because he's serving as an informant and he's sick and only has about six months to live.
