There's no way to sugar coat it. The Tigers took a beating. One of the worst in recent memory. They knew UCF had weapons, namely Kevin Smith who came in leading the country in rushing with 183 yards a game. But the breakdowns were everywhere. The Tigers opened Conference play in Orlando Saturday afternoon with a embarrassing 56-20 loss.
Smith wasted no time out running the Memphis defense. UCF marched 81 yards in the opening possesion of the game for a touchdown capped by a 3 yard plunge from Smith and it was quickly 7-0 Knights. In the 2nd quarter Smith again with hugh holes to run through and it was 21-0 Central Florida. He had 124 yards rushing, 3 TD's and didn't play most of the 2nd half. No doubt Tommy West had that sick feeling it was gonna get out of hand.
In fact, the Knights scored a school record 7 rushing touchdowns and led 42-0 at the half. UCF racked up 601 yards of total offense. Martin Hankins had just 81 yards passing and shared time with Will Hudgens and Matt Malouf at quarterback.
