Cleverly hidden camera catches thieves in the act

A thief trying to rip a money machine off the wall of a Mid-South business was caught in the act by a cleverly hidden security camera.

Jim Jolly, owner of carwashes on Watkins and Hollywood, said a duo of thieves burglarized both his businesses Tuesday night, breaking into a reinforced stainless steel machine at one location in just eight minutes.

The thieves, according to Jolly, got away with more than $400 in quarters, but they left something more valuable than cash.

"It was looking right at them," he said.

What, or rather, who was looking at them?  George Washington, and the security camera hidden in his eye.  The camera was nearly impossible to see as the thieves tried to take one of Jolly's machines down.

"I want these people caught, rather than them go out and hit other car washes and do the same thing all over town," Jolly said.

The security camera, placed just above the machine the crooks broke into, clearly captured one man's face.  Apparently, neither of the men realized they were on camera.

"One served as the lookout, and the other, he worked feverishly," Jolly said.
