MTSU student from Cordova beaten and bloodied

An 18 year old from Cordova is listed in critical but stable condition Wednesday night after being attacked inside a dorm room at Middle Tennessee State University.

Police suspect the 18 year old female was also a victim of sexual assault so Action News Five is not releasing her name. Investigators say late Tuesday night -- campus police got a 911 call about an 18 year old female student who swallowed pills. The student from Cordova had been at MTSU barely a month. When officers arrived to Cummings hall minutes later -- officers say the victim was beaten, bloody and unconscious.

"She had a number of injuries on her body, but most notedly she had some head trauma type injuries," said MTSU Police Chief Buddy Peaster.

We talked with people in Cordova who remember the straight 'A' student and model employee.

Sunny Fife is a friend of the victim and hired her as a part-time employee. "I just can't believe she is such a nice kid for something like to happen to her she has so much ahead of her."

"I was just speaking to her father a week ago and now she is at school and loving it."  said Lucy Wener-Fox a family friend.

The only other person in the room was 18 year old Kevin Sisco. He is charged with attempted first degree murder. Investigators are also looking into sexual assault charges in this case.

MTSU police say the victim had been in that same dorm room with Sisco earlier in the month when dorm administrators complained about intoxicated students. Sisco was charged with having a folding knife and brass knuckles in his room at the time.

Her friends  are hoping for justice in this case and a speedy recovery for a young college student with her whole life ahead of her.
