3 LRPD officers seriously injured when boat flips on Lake DeGray

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (AP) - Three Little Rock police officers suffered serious injuries when their boat overturned yesterday during a charity fishing tournament on Lake DeGray.

Officers Pat Hall, Brian Healy and Chance Ketzscher were taking part in the Arkansas Police Olympics when their boat ran across a shallow part of the lake.

The lake level was so low because of a lack of rain that the shallow area had become a bare island. An Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spokeswoman says the collision threw the men from the boat, traveling at about 40 miles per hour.

Little Rock police Lieutenant Terry Hastings says the officers suffered various broken bones, including a broken pelvis and puncture wounds.

He describes their condition as serious, but not life-threatening. Hastings says the men served on the department's patrol and Special Weapons and Tactics divisions.
