Allegations of sexual assault involve 6 year-old girl

A Mid-South mother says her six-year-old child was sexually assaulted inside a classroom by a fellow first grader.

The allegations stem from an incident in a classroom last week at Dexter Elementary School. The child's family claims an investigation has not been handled properly and are outraged at the result.

"I expect her to be taken care of, and I am very disappointed that they let me down," said her mother about Dexter Elementary.

She's livid and speaking up about a serious problem she says happened to her six year old daughter at Cordova's Dexter Elementary. "I found out she was burning in her bath water and She told me she had a scratch because he put his hands down her pants."

She insists the way the school handled it -- added insult to their allegation of a sexual injury when they refused to removed the boy from school. "She should be able to go back and the other children should feel safe that he's not there anymore," the mother said.

She says last week the 6-year-old boy also pulled down his pants when touched her daughter. La Bonheur records show she received deep scratch in her private area.. Her mother has also filed a report with the Shelby County sheriff's office while her daughter recovers emotionally.

She says the boy should be removed from the school, not just the classroom. Sarah Clark is the 6-year-old girl's older sister and says, "My sister's having nightmares every single night. She's disturbed about it."

Disturbed and her family disappointed -- that Wednesday her six year old daughter may face that same boy again in the halls of Dexter Eementary.

Action News Five tried repeatedly to get any statement from Shelby County schools. A board member told us that they know about the allegation and are investigating the matter.
