Jefferson Co. schools closed for 2nd day by lack of water

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Jefferson County's schools remain closed for a second day for lack of water.

School officials say they wouldn't know until the afternoon whether they can resume classes Wednesday.

School facilities director Bill Nolen says a pump that malfunctioned over the weekend has been fixed, but water pressure hasn't adequately rebuilt.

The public school system operates 10 schools for about 8,000 students.

Many of the Shady Grove Utility District's 7,000 customers have been without water since the pump failed in Jefferson City on Sunday.
