Clerk robbed and kidnapped, police search for gunmen

Police released a description of the car armed gunmen used during an early morning hold up and kidnapping of a store's clerk.

Investigators say two employees were inside the Mississippi Corner Grocery when three gunman rushed into the building and demanded cash.

When the clerks didn't hand over the money, the robbers forced a clerk to leave with him.

The owners of Mississippi Corner Grocery say they've been robbed several times before. But Wednesday morning was the first time robbers have tried to kidnap an employee.

Owner Elmer Wilburn said the robbers burst into his store around 2:00 a.m. "And they were all armed and said drop it off and I was behind the counter too," says Wilburn.

Wilburn says the clerk had just been on the job three days when a gunman put him in a headlock.

Upset they couldn't get any money, the robbers took the clerk outside the store.

Wilburn says that's when he ran to call 911. When the robbers saw him on the phone they sped off with his clerk in the car.

"He said he was in the car and they stopped at a restaurant on brooks road he said they was intending to kill him," explains Wilburn.

Wilburn says the clerk told him the robbers beat him throughout the kidnapping and one time when the car came to a stop he jumped in the back seat and tried to make a run for it.

A struggle occurred and the clerk was able to break free.

Wilburn adds, "And the guy snapped the gun two times, but it wouldn't fire. He saw a chance to jump over the next guy and he started running and he says that's how he escaped."

After getting away from his kidnappers, that clerk was treated at the hospital for several bruises and released.

Police are still looking for the gunmen.

They described the getaway car they were riding in as a 1996 or 1997 Buick LeSabre or Park Avenue. The car is champange in color.
