Church begins new era with installation of pastor

Memphis' Temple of Deliverance Bountiful Blessing Church began a new era Saturday. COGIC Superintendent Mliton Hawkins was installed as Pastor.

The church was led by Bishop G.E. Patterson until his death this year. Hawkins is Bishop Patterson's nephew. He comes to Memphis from Detroit.

Patterson's wife Louise looked on as Hawkins took his officials position as head of the church.

"It's such a historical event because it's the first time every that Temple of Deliverance had to install a pastor and with the transition of our leader Bishop Patterson. God saw fit to put Superintendent Hawkins as our new Joshua to lead us into the new era of ministry here at Temple of Deliverance," says Elder Joseph Jackson.

Hawkins wife Catherine was on hand for Saturday's installation service.

Hawkins says he plans to continue the work started by church founder Bishop G.E. Patterson.

Temple of Deliverance is one of the largest churches in the city.
