Clerk robbed at Memphis motel

Shelby County Detectives want to know who was wearing a Halloween mask when they committed a robbery. The robbery happened Monday morning at the Traveler's Inn on Whitten Road.

The sheriff's department statistics show crime going down in Cordova. Now, you can add one armed robbery to the list from Monday night. It was complete with guns, ski masks, and something else you might not expect.

Throughout a dreary day, it's business as usual at the Traveler's Inn off Interstate-40 after a clerk stepped out back to smoke and two men walked up with guns.

Investigators say they're looking for the two men, hoping they can catch them pretty quickly.

Motel operators say no one wants to talk about the robbery. The clerk is still too distraught, still crying and still terrified.

Everyone's worried those two robbers might come back again.

The clerk didn't get a good look at the two guys who robbed her. Both men were wearing masks. One had on the stereotypical ski mask. The other got his inspiration from the time of the year.

"One had on a Halloween mask, a green colored Halloween mask with simulated red drops of blood on it," says Shelby County Sheriff's Department Spokesperson, Steve Shular. "Halloween mask is not unusual. We find these from time to time in business robberies. People will wear any kind of a mask."

It's a tactic not all that unusual and a costume put on not for laughs but to really frighten.

The Sheriff's Department is asking local businesses to keep themselves safe offering tips like reducing the amount of cash in the register, keeping at least two people on duty at all times, and asking those employees to try to stay inside.

If you know anything about the motel robbery you're urged to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
