Southaven pizza gets high marks from Bush

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - Joe Gomez knows he can make a pizza pleasing to the presidential palate - and he has a memento of thanks to prove it.

Gomez, manager of Milanos New York Pizza restaurant in Southaven, said he got a special request to make three large pepperoni pizzas for President Bush when he opened for work on October 15th.

Bush flew into Memphis last week for a $1,000-per-person fundraiser for Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander.

Gomez said one of the soldiers guarding Air Force One told Bush's staff about Milanos, after the president requested a New York-style pizza.

Gomez said the military man returned that afternoon with a coin with the presidential seal on it, expressing the president's thanks.

Gomez is so proud that he framed the red, white and blue coin, about the size of a silver dollar, and placed it on the front counter near the tip jar.
