Michael Goar resigned Wednesday from his position as Chief Operating Officer at Memphis City Schools.

Memphis City Schools spokesperson Rita Cooper said Goar accepted a cabinet-level position with Boston Public Schools, and will be leaving Memphis in late November.

Goar will follow former MCS Superintendent Dr. Carol Johnson, who accepted a position with Boston Public Schools last summer.

"The superintendent will be assessing her team executive cabinet team in terms of leadership capacity rules and responsibilities," he said. "I will be supporting her as her assistant, and working on that endeavor."

Goar's successor has not been announced.
