  • Driving under the influence
  • Public intoxication
  • Driving while her license was revoked
  • Open container law violation
  • Reckless driving

Originally reported 10/24/07:

Tamara Mitchell-Ford, the ex-wife of former state senator John Ford, was involved in a traffic accident near the intersection of Poplar and Yates Wednesday morning.

Investigators said Mitchell-Ford rear-ended an SUV, causing that vehicle to rear-end another car.

The accident happened around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Mitchell-Ford was taken to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis after complaining of injuries.

Mitchell-Ford, driving on a revoked license, was alone in Betty Allen's 2006 Toyota Corolla.  Allen said she let her brother, Leo Jones, borrow her car.

Jones, who said he met Mitchell-Ford at a Memphis Redbirds game, claims he was taking her to her probation office.  They then drove to the VA hospital, where Jones had an hour long class.  That was at 10:00 a.m.

According to Jones, when he left the hospital after class, the car - and Mitchell-Ford - were gone.

"She knew she didn't have a driver's license," he said. "I didn't think she would do what she done."

Police said Mitchell-Ford refused a DUI breathalyzer test on the scene.  Police said they were investigating whether or not Ford was driving under the influence at the time of the accident.

Jones said he believed Mitchell-Ford may have been drinking.

Investigators said Ford was placed under arrest after it was determined that a warrant for contempt of court in Shelby County was on file.

Additionally, police said, Ford was to be charged with driving with a revoked license.

Mitchell-Ford was arrested last month in Collierville for driving under the influence and driving with a revoked license.

In 2001, she was sentenced to three years probation after an incident in which she rammed her Jaguar into the home of Connie Mathews, who has two children by John Ford.

Mitchell-Ford has four children by Ford, who was convicted in April of taking $55,000 in bribes during the Tennessee Waltz investigation.
