Grizzlies Extend Contracts for Gay, Warrick, and Lowry

Rudy Gay, Kyle Lowry and Hakim Warrick Signed through 2008-09 Season

The Memphis Grizzlies today announce they have picked up the team options for the 2008-09 season for forward Rudy Gay, guard Kyle Lowry and forward Hakim Warrick.

"We are pleased to pick up the options on these three outstanding young men. Rudy, Kyle and Hakim have all shown in the brief period of time that they have been here in Memphis the talent necessary to become significant NBA players," said Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace. "They have also shown a willingness to interact with our fans and assist the Grizzlies' charitable endeavors. Our team is fortunate to have this trio."

Gay leads the Grizzlies in scoring (17.0, T-17th in NBA), steals (1.57) and minutes played (31.1, 9th) in seven preseason contests. The 6-9, 220-pound forward was named to the NBA's All-Rookie First Team last season and finished third in NBA Rookie of the Year voting after averaging 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 78 games in 2006-07.

Lowry enters his second season after playing just 10 games as a rookie due to a wrist injury last season and is averaging 6.9 points and a team-high 5.4 assists (10th) in seven preseason games. The 6-0, 175-pound playmaker is the only NBA player to record a triple-double this preseason after tallying 21 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists at Houston on Oct. 23. Lowry averaged 5.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists in his abbreviated rookie campaign last season.

Warrick begins his third season with the Grizzlies after setting career highs in scoring (12.7), rebounds (5.1), assists (0.9), steals (0.5), blocks (0.4), field goal percentage (.524) and free throw percentage (.771) in 2006-07. The 6-9, 219-pound forward is averaging 8.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in seven preseason games.

The Grizzlies will complete their preseason schedule tomorrow when they host the Indiana Pacers at 7 p.m. at FedExForum.
