UPDATE: Elderly man killed, wife critically injured in double shooting

An elderly man was killed and his wife was criticaly injured after a double shooting in their home Thursday night in the 1800 block of Pinedale, near the Ed Rice Community Center in Frayser.

Investigators said the shooting happened just after 6:00 p.m. Thursday.  The man, who was in his seventies, died from his injuries.   His wife, who is in her fifties, was transported to the Regional Medical Center in extremely critical condition.

Detectives at the scene said robbery may have been a motive in the shooting, but it was still too early in their investigation to know for sure.

"We're talking to some people right now that may have seen something and once we abstract that information we'll be able to know more about what happened," said Memphis Police Inspector Rogers Prewitt.

If you have information about the shooting, call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
