$50,000 bond set for ex-wife of former state senator

The ex of ex-state senator John Ford is in a heap of trouble following yet another DUI charge. Tamara Mitchell Ford appeared in court this morning.

Tamara Mitchell Ford is still in the Shelby County Jail. She could not post bond after the judge raised it to $50,000.

And it's clear she has a long legal road ahead.

Mitchell Ford, wearing her Jail East orange, learned it wouldn't be so easy to make bond.

"The hundred dollar bond was way too low and we asked the judge to increase that," says State Prosecutor Brooks Yelverton.

Yelverton asked the judge to raise Ford's bond from the standard hundred dollars calling her a flight risk and a danger to the community.

Juni Ganguli, a private attorney hired by her family, argued against it.

Though the prosecutor told the judge, in addition to a DUI conviction and two other DUI arrests in Tennessee, Ford had three DUIs in Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina, she only has one misdemeanor on her record for that conviction.

"I understand the community's outrage, but when it's all said and done, at this point she remains charged with a misdemeanor," says Ganguli.

After a pre-trial services representative laid out Ford's long rap sheet, the judge agreed to hike her bond to $50,000.

If she's released, the prosecutor wants it to be under the condition she wear an alcohol monitoring device.

When asked if Mitchell Ford would be able to come up with the bond, her attorney says, "She's not sure at this point."

Even if she makes bond, the courts will transfer her to Collierville where her last three DUI arrests happened.

She's wanted for contempt of court after the judge found out she was drinking again.

In addition to the contempt of court, Ford has a report date November 2nd. She's due in Collierville for another DUI appearance November 15th.
