Body found in Cordova apartment complex

Police are investigating a body found at a Cordova apartment complex.

Neighbors at the Woodchase Apartment Complex are a little uneasy after a body was discovered. A car is apparently missing, and the mystery is just beginning.

Investigators spilled in and out of Woodchase Apartment Building 2035. Neighbors standing in the parking lot were dumbfounded by the scene.

Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies showed up to serve an eviction notice but inside they found a body badly decomposed.

They called Memphis police, who arrived on scene shortly before noon. Neighbors came outside shortly thereafter wondering just what was going on.

"Hopefully everything's okay, though," says neighbor John Catalano.

John Beckman adds, "Seems like a whole lot to be going for somebody to die of natural causes."

Investigators say this is murder. "We are conducting a homicide investigation at this time. The victim was in advanced stages of decomposition," Lt. Toney Armstrong with Memphis Police Department.

Police says there's evidence of a struggle. Exactly who died, when, and how they were killed, investigators don't know.

"Something like this happens right across the street from you, kinda scares you a little bit," says Beckman.

A feeling spreading into the night as neighbors can only imagine what happened inside 2035.

Neighbors say they know the man who lives in this apartment. They say he's an older man, very nice, easy to talk to. But they say his pick-up truck isn't here.

Police won't comment only to say the body found here is still not identified.
