YOUR TURN: Connie Anderson on holding parents accountable

WMC-TV General Manager Lee Meredith WMC-TV General Manager Lee Meredith

We received many comments this week about the "Your Turn" letter suggesting that parents be held accountable when their children commit crimes or cause other problems. Sentiment was split about 50-50. This week's "Your Turn" letter goes to Connie Anderson, who took the opposing view.

In her words:

"My grandmother told me about a woman with a son who spent most of his life breaking his sweet mother's heart. He was in and out of jail, on and off drugs.  You name it, he probably did it.  Everyone knew that this mother had done all she could do to raise a good son. The story brought me to tears, but then, my grandmother said, "Oh sweetheart, don't cry for the woman. She's OK, because she knows when you done raised up a fool then you just done raised up a fool." This woman would not have deserved to go to jail and I am sure that there of plenty of parents just like her out there trying to do the best that they can."

That's Connie Anderson's turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
