Grizzlies Realize Close is Not Close Enough

There's still plenty of buzz in the air around Memphis after the Grizzlies took the NBA World Champion San Antonio Spurs to the wire before falling by just 3-points Wednesday night at FedExForum.

Memphis was able to keep the game tight with strong play from the veterans, Like Pau Gasol who lead all scorers with 22-points, including this buzzer beating 3 pointer to give the Grizz the Lead going into the 4th quarter...

To all the all-around play of Mike Miller, who finished with 11-points, 10-rebounds and 5-assists..

To the 'Turn Back the Clock' performance by point guard Damon Stoudamire, who begins his 13th year of NBA action with 18-points and 4-assists.

In the end, though, Spurs veteran Manu Ginobili owned the 4th quarter..

Breaking a 95-all tie on a twisting layup with :32 seconds left..

He scores 11 points in the period...and forced a key charging call on Rudy Gay with time running out.

The resulting 104-101 loss is NOT what the Grizzlies wanted...but, it's definitely an effort to build on.

  Pau says:

"I think we dod a pretty good job. We should be proud of ourselves..but, we're not patting ourselves on the back. We've not happy being close, we've got to work for it...keep competing every game like this."

  Adds Mike Miller:

"We played pretty good in spurts, but we're out here to win games. They played better than us down the stretch. We've just got to try to get better."

Quick note, backup guard Kyle Lowry's hustling play led to a bruised hip on this dive out of bounds for a loose ball late in the game..

Lowry immediately iced the hip on the sideline and did not return.

He DID practice Thursday with the team.

The Grizzlies host the Indiana Pacers Saturday Night at FedExForum.
