Man found shot to death in middle of street

A man was found dead in the middle of the street and witnesses say he'd been shot in the head. Now, homicide investigators are working the case.

Investigators spent most of Sunday night on Faxon. They were called out by a passer-by who told dispatchers that there was a man lying in the middle of the street.

When police showed up, they found exactly what the caller described, a man lying in the middle of the street dead.

Investigators say they don't know who he is or exactly where he was killed. Police do say that the man had been shot.

Some people who live nearby say that man had been shot once in the head.

Sources close to the investigation say he was not shot on Faxon, that he simply ended up on that street. They also say his body was likely dumped there after being killed somewhere else.

"It appears that individual has been shot and the investigation has started from here. Like you said, not much to go on. Everything we have right now is very sketchy, hadn't been able to verify any information," says Inspector Mike Willis with Memphis Police Department.

Memphis police are hoping to identify the man by Monday morning. He has been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for an official autopsy.

Meanwhile, the search for a killer is on. If you have any information about the man or suspects involved, police ask you to call 901-528-CASH.
