Pat Sajak the host of America's Favorite game show.  For millions of Americans, 'Wheel of Fortune' has been a virtual part of the family for the past quarter of a century

"Time is a funny thing," Sajak said in a recent interview with Donna Davis. "In a way, it feels like we just started yesterday, but on the flip side, I don't remember ever not doing it."

This year, 'Wheel of Fortune' is celebrating its 25th anniversary in prime time television. But Sajak actually joined the show 26 years ago, when it was a daytime game show.

For Sajak, it was a path that was totally unexpected. A native of Chicago, Sajak was doing weather at a Los Angeles TV station when Merv Griffin called to make a deal.

"It had already been on the air for seven years with a guy named Chuck Woolery, and Chuck left the show, and Merv called me, and I ended up coming over," Sajak said. And it looked like it was fading a little bit...kind of on the downslide, and I honestly thought, I'll do this show for a year, maybe, if we're lucky, and I can move on to something else. Well, shows you what I know."

And what about that cushy schedule?  The show tapes only 36 days each year.

"It's the best part of the job," Sajak said. "We'll do 15 shows in 3 days here in New York, and I don't work for another 2 weeks. So people think I have a full time job, and I don't."

And what's next for Pat?

"I'm at the stage in my career where I'm not looking for the next big thing," Sajak said. "It would be hard to replicate this. I'm gonna do this for a few more years. Then I'll sit on the front porch and whittle."
