YOUR TURN: Cheyenne Hunt's vote for metal detectors in school

WMC-TV General Manager Lee Meredith WMC-TV General Manager Lee Meredith

This week’s “Your Turn” segment goes to Cheyenne Hunt. Hunt wrote us to tell us that she supports the idea of requiring school children to go through metal detectors in order to get to their classrooms. Expanded use of metal detectors is now being studied by the Memphis City School system.

Hunt’s views on this are shaped by her personal experience. In her words:

"I think it’s imperative that metal detectors are put in every school and every child is to walk thru the metal detectors.  Society has changed. We now have police patrolling our schools; this was unheard of 40 years ago.  It’s enough to scare any parent.  My grandchild was stopped on the way to school, and a gun was pointed at her and all the gunman wanted was her purse.  He tried to pull the trigger. It stuck.  I’m saying prayers for all our children that they be safe."

That’s Cheyenne Hunt’s turn. Now it’s your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
