For a team left for dead with a Quarterback thought not tough enough to win the Big Game..
The Memphis Tigers and Martin Hankins are looking pretty good right now.
The U of M picking up its' biggest win of the year at Southern Miss over the Weekend..
And Hankins earns Conference USA Player of the Week honors for his 4-Touchdown, 396-yard passing effort against the Golden Eagles.
Forget CUSA player of the week.
Martin Hankins could be player of the month!
He's thrown for over 300 yards in 4 straight games, not to mention a tremendous 4th quarter rally to beat Southern Miss Saturday.
"I couldn't of drawn it up any better."
Hankins tossed 2 touchdowns in the game's final 5 minutes for the Tigers biggest win of the year.
Now 5-5, they're just one win away from bowl eligibility.
Tigers Head Coach Tommy West says his QB is getting tougher.
"I have never had a quarterback that's throwing the ball with this type of confidence and putting it where he is."
West says Hankins is not afraid to take a hit in the pocket...and that's been the big difference.
Hankins says he feeds off the guys who protect him, so he can get the ball where it needs to go.
"I tell you what the receivers have really taken a lot pride and made some great plays and so has the offensive line."
Adds Coach West..
<"If we had any kind of a running game to go with him right now, this offense would be untoppable."
The win was sweet for Hankins, the hero, in front of his hometown family and friends.
And Sweet for the Tigers, a team that's been kicked around all season...but has managed to follow up every big loss with an even bigger win.
The Tigers can become Bowl Eligible with a win over U.A.B Saturday, 2:30pm at the Liberty Bowl.
