Mysterious body part found in McDonald's parking lot - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

Mysterious body part found in McDonald's parking lot

At the McDonalds at Perkins and Knight Arnold Wednesday morning, police gathered in the parking lot.

They weren't there for breakfast.  Rather, they were examining something that was very unappetizing.

Their cruisers converged on one parking spot.  Their eyes trained on just a few square inches of asphalt, and the mysterious object that looked like a body part.

Officers were originally called to the scene by a MLGW worker who said that he had found a finger laying on the pavement.

The MLGW worker did not want to comment on camera about what he found.

Investigators, meanwhile, could not immediately tell if the body part was human or not.

Police, who did not want to appear on camera, would only classify what was found as a "mysterious object," sending it to a forensics lab for testing to determine the species it originated from.

Calls from Action News 5 to The Med, Methodist Hospital, and other major healthcare agencies revealed no recent patients reporting missing appendages.

It all left police asking three simple questions:  If it is human, who does it belong to?  If not, what is it?  And finally, what was it doing in a McDonald's parking lot?

Police could not say how long it would take to get results back from the forensics lab.
